It is important to protect and preserve your hearing over time given that it is the basis of human communication and sound perception. The human ear is unique in a way in that it allows us perceives sounds in a particular range better than others. These is known as the speech banana. Our ears also assists in localizing where sound is coming from based on the timing and intensity differences between our ears.

Hearing Loss is a condition that results in a partial if not complete inability for us to hear sounds properly. It can be caused from a range of issues along the auditory pathway, including the outer, middle and inner ear.

The hearing loss can impact us physically, mentally and socially depending on when it is diagnosed as well as the type & degree of hearing loss. The main impact of hearing loss are as follows:

Hearing Tests

A comprehensive hearing assessment involves a case history, examination of the outer ear using an otoscope, tympanometry (test of middle ear function), pure-tone audiometry using air and bone conduction (ability to hear the softest sound at a particular pitch) and speech audiometry (ability to discern speech).
